I don't have a ballwinder, so I wind my balls by hand. I've gotten pretty good at winding from the skein around my knees, and I wound two skeins that way in the car this summer. The third skein, though, gave me no end of trouble - it took me a week to finally get all the knots out and get it into a ball!
I'm a teacher, technical editor, designer and writer, based in Toronto. My first book "Beyond Knit and Purl" has been praised for its fresh approach to teaching knitting. My latest book, "Pattern Writing for Knit Designers" has been called a "game-changer".
I'm Lead Technical Editor for Knitty. I'm known for my "small start" approach to teaching sock and mitten knitting.
I have opinions, mad math skills and an unfeasibly large stash of sock yarn.

Ouch
Ugh... that's just painful.

Ouch is right. I did that once--the very first time I knitted with a skein. Never again. It took me a very long time to get all the knots out.
