A Cautionary Tale

It's late, you're tired, and you don't have easy access to a swift and ballwinder.

Really, how dangerous could it be to knit directly from a skein?

Don't do it. Just don't.

This is what results.

  1. Ugh... that's just painful.

I don't have a ballwinder, so I wind my balls by hand. I've gotten pretty good at winding from the skein around my knees, and I wound two skeins that way in the car this summer. The third skein, though, gave me no end of trouble - it took me a week to finally get all the knots out and get it into a ball!

Ouch is right. I did that once--the very first time I knitted with a skein. Never again. It took me a very long time to get all the knots out.
