I knit four hats over the holiday break, though, and when MD's Nana saw me casting on for the first one, she firmly (and correctly) reminded me how to do it.Kirsten N.https://www.blogger.com/profile/09901124914258639144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17401386.post-44663805014138943682009-01-10T17:08:00.000-05:002009-01-10T17:08:00.000-05:00You think the knitted cast on is slow? I love the cable cast on, and if I'm doing ribbing, I do the 'alternate cable cast on' which flows into the ribbing almost as nice as a true tubular cast on. I choose the cast on depending on the project's needs; I have about 5 that I use on a regular basis. It's one of the simpliest things to do to improve the function and look of an item. But of course, "look" is totally subjective (although Montse Stanley doesn't think so, LOL).TracyKMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07498896222222982320noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17401386.post-82343172863642265602009-01-09T12:13:00.000-05:002009-01-09T12:13:00.000-05:00I think the long-tailed cast-on is actually the ea...I think the long-tailed cast-on is actually the easiest as well as the fastest. And once you know it, it is easy to move to the Old German (aka Old Swedish) cast on to give extra stretch for the tops of socks.

I think the knitted cast-on is difficult and cumbersome. So maybe it is a factor of what one learns first.Tracyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02586989859992034291noreply@blogger.com
